@MatthewWelsh – What Is ‘Spiritual’ Entertainment?

A lot of people ask me what do I mean when I say ’spiritual’ or ‘conscious’ entertainment. I can never give a clear answer because in a sense it is like trying to describe that undescribeable, intangible and subjective Presence. But, I think one possible definition of spiritual entertainment is “entertainment that demonstrates the type of positive impact that the Presence (whether you want to call this God, Universe, Spirit or Presence) can have on people”
Another person who gives a pretty good explanation of ’spiritual’ cinema is Stephen Simon, Academy Award winning producer of What Dreams May Come. In an interview, Stephen describes spiritual cinema as cinema that provides a balance to the vision of darkness and negativity that most of the media and entertainment industry focuses on.
