There is a story of a young man of Italian heritage. This young man had a dream. His dream was to visit his homeland of Italy. So, he saved his pennies and dimes and eventually he had enough money for the trip. The young man planned a great adventure and was ready to leave for his trip.

Before he left, the young man decided he could use a haircut. The young man went into the barbershop and began telling the barber all about his upcoming adventure. Being a negative man, the barber began to spew out his negativism. "How are you going to get over there to that Italy place? It can’t be easy!"

"I am going to fly Alitalia airlines," said the young man.

"That’s a terrible idea," said the barber. "They have got an awful reputation. Well, if you ever get there, where are you going to stay?"

Very excitedly the young man answered, "I am going to stay at the Hilton in Rome."

"Forget that! It’s a terrible idea. They have awful service. Well, what are you going to do when you get there?"

With even more excitement the young man said, "I am going to see the Pope."

"The Pope? That’s a terrible idea! You can’t see the Pope. He only sees important people." With that the barber looked the young man up and down. "And that doesn’t appear to be you!"

Well, despite all this negativism the young man went on his trip and he had a wonderful time. When he got back home it was about six weeks later and it was time for another haircut. The young man walked into the barbershop and the barber immediately began to gloat. "So, I bet you never did get over there to that Italy place."

"I sure did," said the young man. "I had a wonderful time. I flew Alitalia airlines and they were great. We were on time the entire flight and service was awesome. When I got there I stayed at the Hilton and they treated me like a king. They gave me a suite and took care of my every need. I then went and saw the Pope and I kissed his ring."

"You did?" gasped the shocked barber. "Well, what happened? What did he say?"

"Well, the Pope looked down at my head and he said, ‘Son, where did you get that terrible haircut?’"

My friend, we need to be exactly like this young man in this humorous story. We need to ignore any negativism around us (which sometimes is inside our own heads) and focus on the possibilities. The affirmation above will help us do just that.
