President Barack Obama will be in Miami Wednesday — the bad news is that it will be during afternoon rush hour.
The president, who ends a day of fundraising appearances across the country here, is expected to land at Miami International Airport onboard Air Force One about 5:30 p.m., just as rush-hour traffic along the nearby Dolphin Expressway or State Road 112 are in full swing.
After being greeted by Miami Congressman Kendrick Meek, who is in a tight race with Jeff Greene in the Democratic primary for a U.S. Senate seat, the presidential motorcade will be on the move — and the traffic will part.
Motorists who get caught in the motorcade’s path may come to a complete stop until the motorcade passes and the roadway reopens.
The motorcade’s route is a secret, but the president is headed to the Fontainebleau Hotel on Miami Beach.
Obama is to be the keynote speaker at a reception and dinner to benefit the Democratic National Party. The event could raise as much as $1 million for the DNC as tickets for the event start at $500 — and get higher for closer access to the president.
