Sometimes it can seem that no matter which way you turn you get into situations where you have difficulty in maintaining your efforts to stay focused on your own personal goals - you find it hard to build your self esteem, when all around you seem to be trying to pull you down. So what can you do to try and avoid or deal with these situations?

Well first you need to be aware of where these situations can occur and the types of people that are likely to stop you feeling good about yourself, which in turn can have the effect of you finding yourself with a lower self esteem - your aim should be to raise your own self esteem. So here are a few samples of situations to try and avoid getting involved in, and things that may hinder you in your desire to raise your self esteem:

1. Other people’s behaviour – the world is full of gossips, moaners, naggers, bullies, and backstabbers. Without fail, these people will start to create awful feelings for you. Simply, stay away from them and learn to mix with other people.

2. Your own past life experiences – you can’t change these, so you must try to avoid letting any pain or regrets you may feel turn into fear. Instead treat any mistakes you have made in the past as a lesson that you have learned on your life journey.

3. Negative Working Environment – in today’s workplace many people will try and gain advancement by treading on colleagues with no thought as to how they are behaving, nor indeed how their behaviour may affect others in a negative way. Unfortunately you cannot avoid competition in the workplace, but you can make sure that it is fair competition where you are concerned.

4. Pessimistic view of the World – when you are trying to build your self-esteem it is essential not to concentrate on the negatives, but instead you need to learn how to make the best of a bad situation. Try and find the positives to replace any negative thoughts or talk.

5. Change – again this is often unavoidable and you have to learn ways to deal with it.

6. Your own personal identity – you are your own person, and just because your mother or father may have been a failure you do not need to be. Learn from their failure and don’t make the same mistakes they may have.

Sometimes you can’t avoid a situation, or even change it, and you are certainly not going to be able to change a person. What you can do is to learn to avoid such situations and people, and to deal properly with any that you can’t avoid.

Once you have taken hold of the information above you will find that your self-esteem begins to climb. You will also begin to get a gut feeling when a situation is bad for your self-esteem and learn how to deal with it.
